Groundstaff vow to win next time
Fawley Ground Staff are celebrating despite losing in a national competition last month held in the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.
Head Groundsman at Fawley Parish Council, Mr Niall Gibb explained ‘we were shortlisted from over 300 entrants for the best kept grounds and lost to Sunderland City Council, there is no second prize, so I think we have a lot to celebrate when you consider the resources available to such a large city compared to little Fawley Parish Council’.
The competition, which is presented in an Oscar style ceremony, includes all the who’s who of the Amenity and Leisure Industry and is open to every type of club from private and commercial to public amenities like those at Gang Warily.
Chairman of the Council Councillor Bob Wappett said ‘this is testament to the professionalism of our staff and I am sure we will be in the competition again next year’.
The facilities at Gang Warily are shortly to receive a new children’s play area to encourage more families to visit and spend the day.
