biography |
I'm
married and my lovely wife, Susan, is proberably even better
known in the area than my self, as she is always dashing
around doing things locally, such as flower arrangements
for various functions and shows or raising money with Coffee
mornings, Craft Stalls, Political Events etc.
We have a total of 5 sons, now all grown up with families
of their own; so we have 9 Grandchildren. One of these is
Reece who is unfortunately severely disabled and lives with
us as his Guardians and Carers.
We have lived and worked in this area for almost 25 years,
moving from Hertfordshire to the South in 1971. Both Sue
& I were Scout leaders for many years, both at Dibden
Purlieu & Applemore.
Until recently we owned 2 studios in Dibden Purlieu, where
we Designed and Installed Furniture and fittings for Kitchens,
Bedrooms & Bathrooms, also in the latter years Home
Studies or Offices. We decided in 2002 to downsize our business
and sold the shops and run the business from home so now
we have a small company doing the same type of designs,
but less of them. Only employing 3 people other than ourselves.
This gives us both more time to spend with Reece, and I
help as a volunteer 1 day per week at the "Rose Road
School", which is a Specials Needs School that Reece
attends full time.
This background has bought to my attention a lot of shortfalls
in access and amenities not only for disabled children,
but also parents with young children in pushchairs, and
of course, the elderly. The lack of skills training locally
is of great concern. I also feel that the local infrastructure
is getting quite fragile and many things need to be done
to improve this.
Although I have been politically a conservative all of my
voting life (Which began at 21 then) I am a strong believer
in leaving Politics in Westminster and locally trying to
work together to improve life for us all. Hence, in April
of this year I became one of your local councillors and
I hope that the local electorate will feel that I am approachable
enough to bring to my attention any point that are of concern
to them and I will do my best to try and resolve them.
